The Friday Edit: Volume 1

Some of my favorite posts to read are weekly roundups of links and favorite things. Modern Mrs. Darcy’s Friday roundup is one I especially look forward to on Friday mornings. I’ve found great new products, gift ideas, and a lot of interesting articles from rounds ups like hers. Back in my early blogging days, I used to share a ‘Friday Faves’ post of favorite things from the most recent week and decided why not bring it back, this time as ‘The Friday Edit?’

Sounds elevated, doesn’t it? I like elevated.

Without further ado, the first volume of The Friday Edit!

A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury: I kept seeing A Court of Thorns and Roses during my (many) trips to the bookstore. I read the back cover and didn’t think I’d find a story about a human and fairies all that interesting. Out of curiosity, I asked the masses (Instagram) and was informed I had read it, so I counted it as one of my twelve books recommended by social media for the year and bought myself a copy. I was hooked. So hooked I finished it on a Saturday afternoon and immediately went to buy A Court of Mist and Fury. Book two is over six hundred pages, but I finished it within the week and the end left me shook. There are five books in the series, and I’m making myself read another book between the second and third, just to make it last longer.

You Are the Girl for the Job: In between books about high fae, I also read You Are the Girl for the Job, a book I immediately placed on my ‘must read’ list. Jess Connolly shares actionable steps and advice to help women shake off insecurity, shame, comparison, and fear and start living in the purpose we are each called to. The last third of the book left me with fire in my veins. I’ll be gifting this one to the women in my life, especially those trying to find their way.

First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser: I ran out of my usual cleanser and decided to try something new. I’ve sporadically used First Aid Beauty products and had read good reviews about their cleanser, so I picked up a bottle at Ulta. I am sold. I’ve been using it for two weeks now and I’m a big fan. It lathers well, removes all my makeup, and my skin looks great. I may have to try a few other First Aid Beauty products…

How I Built This – Tarte: I’ve listened to the How I Built This podcast on and off for years. Once in a while, an episode will stick with me and the recent interview with Maureen Kelly, founder of Tarte, did just that. I’ve been a Tarte fan for years, but knew next to nothing about Maureen or the founding of her brand. Her story is one of heartbreak, resilience, tenacity, and following her heart. I laughed a bit, I cried a fair amount, and I was inspired to lean even further into what I’m building in my own life.

Sunshine: The sun came out for the first time in days while I was finalizing this post and it immediately improved my mood. It’s been so cold, gray, and rainy this week that my mood was definitely starting to suffer. The sunlight has been missed and is most definitely welcomed!

There we have it – my first The Friday Edit. What’s in your edit this week?
