Whole30: Week Two Recap

Week two of Whole30 is in the books!

Fourteen days in, and I’m starting to feel the positive impact of being gluten/dairy/soy/legume/alcohol/sugar-free. I’m in that place where I almost hate how good I feel because it’s an indication that I should continue to eat like this long term.

Historically, week two has been not so kind to my digestion. A little TMI ahead. You’ve been warned.

Typically, around day eight, my body revolts. I spend a lot of time in the bathroom. It lasts roughly twenty-four hours, and then we’re golden. Except this time, there was none of that. In fact, this round, I’ve been dealing with – here’s the TMI part – a lot of constipation. I’m a bit perplexed given how much healthier my diet is, but I’ll continue to work through it.

This is also when the NSVs (non-scale victory) start to show up. I’m far less bloated and my clothes are fitting much better. My sleep the last couple of days has been incredible. I’ve been struggling to fall asleep for much of the first couple of weeks of 2023, and the last three nights, I have slept like a baby. I do think there was some spiritual warfare happening – that’s for another post – but between praying it down and Whole30, I’ve been falling asleep and sleeping deep for three days and counting. Previously, I was taking melatonin, Calm, and drinking sleepytime tea, all at once, and it was doing nothing, not even after I cut caffeine after twelve noon. I’ll take that NSV any day.

For meals this past week, I had an excellent steak stir fry for lunch using riced cauliflower and a stir fry mix from Trader Joe’s and dinner was tacos using jicama wraps (also found at Trader Joe’s) for a shell. A lot of nights I also diced and air fried a potato as a side. For snacks, I focused on mainly fruit along with dates and almond butter which, I found, make an excellent “dessert.”

I also managed several workouts which felt really good – getting back into the swing of things!

Recipes and a list of some of my favorite Whole30 options from Trader Joe’s will hit the blog later this week – I’m excited to sharing those as I’ve gotten a lot of DMs on Instagram about what I’m eating and buying at the grocery store. Happy to share!
