Hey there, September!
I’ve always been a big fan of September. September means football season, the beginning of fall (although fall is going to look a lot different for me in Los Angeles!), and the sense of new beginnings.
And of course, with a new month comes a new installment of What I’m Loving!
If you’re new around here, I started the ‘What I’m Loving’ series to share things I’ve loved from the previous month. Sometimes it’s products, other times it’s events or experiences.
Here’s what I’m loving this month.
Greenlights. I read Matthew McConaughey’s Greenlights last month and I could.not.put.it.down. It’s not a self-help book like I thought upon purchase (although it is packed full of life lessons), but a true memoir. I’ve always been a McConaughey fan, but after reading his book, I think he might be right up there with Dolly Parton and Peyton Manning as one of my favorite people. He’s wild and free and honest and everyone should read his book. He is releasing a Greenlights journal in December, and I’ve already pre-ordered it.
Twilight. You probably already know the Twilight movies have made it to Netflix. It had been years since I last watched any of the movies – I haven’t even seen the last two – and I decided to watch Twilight the other night. I documented my commentary on Instagram, and was inspired to do that more often: watch a popular TV show or movie and offer my film school student commentary. Check out the highlight in my profile for the Twilight commentary!
Only Murders In The Building. I didn’t have high expectations for Only Murders In The Building starring Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin. I thought it was going to be cheesy and that Selena would be used as the youngster setting the boomers straight. Turns out, all three of their characters are complex and messy, the writing is clever and funny, and the storyline is compelling. If you like murder podcasts as much as I do, you’ll love this. It’s on Hulu with new episodes every Tuesday.
Half-Gallon Water Bottle. I’m all about efficiency, and felt like I was constantly filling my 24oz water bottle up. I decided to order a bigger water bottle to A) make less trips to the water cooler/fridge and B) keep better tack of how much water I was drinking – I was losing count of how much water I was drinking and it could have been 48oz or 148oz for all I knew. I ordered this half-gallon water bottle from Amazon and while it’s a little big, it’s proven convenient for both less refills and keeping track of how much water I’m drinking.
Homegoods. I’ve been on a real home decor kick lately. When I first moved to Los Angeles, the goal was to furnish my apartment. Now that I have furniture, I’m shifting my focus to actually decorating my apartment and Homegoods has been coming in clutch. I’ve found several great frames, the perfect rug, wall art, and a great new set of bedding. I’m documenting my decor updates on Instagram, so be sure to follow along!
Salutation Joggers. I wasn’t a fan of joggers, mostly because I could never find a pair that looked good on me. They were too tight in some places, too big in others, almost always too long, made of a material I don’t love… But I kept trying and struck gold with Athleta’s Salutation Joggers. They are so soft and so comfortable and I don’t want to wear anything else ever again. I’ve been wearing them with crop tops for an effortless yet comfy look.
Deuce. I joined a new gym a couple of days a week. I missed barbells and hard workouts and with my fitness goals, I knew I needed to get back into a gritty gym. I did a trial class at Deuce and loved it. I’d like to be able to go more than twice a week, but with work, school, and teaching barre, twice a week is what works with my schedule right now.
School. School started back last week and I’m obsessed. That’s right – I’m obsessed with school. Going in person is an absolute game changer. My classmates seem to feel the same way. We all get there early and hangout for a bit before class. I’m sure the novelty of being physically with each other and in a classroom will wear off, but I’m not taking it for granted. I really loved week one of classes and I’m excited for what the semester ahead holds.
Football Season. It is, officially, football season! I love football season so very much and I absolutely had Twitter open to monitor how Tennessee’s opening game against Bowling Green was going during my comedy pilot class. East coast kickoff times don’t jive well with my west coast schedule, but have no fear – I will be just as hype for a 9am kickoff as I would be for a 12 noon kickoff. Just perhaps still in my pajamas instead of in full Vols gear. I’ll be sure to drink my coffee from a Tennessee mug though!
That’s it for this month’s What I’m Loving. Lots of TV and school spirit listed above. Tell me what you’ve loving in the comments!
