What I’m Loving – November 2021

At the risk of sounding like a broken record… Can you believe November is halfway over?! Me either… 2021 has flown by and if I don’t get this month’s ‘What I’m Loving’ out now, I may well not get it posted at all with the way days are ticking by!

And so, without further ado, November’s What I’m Loving.

Red – Taylor’s Version. You aren’t surprised this is the first thing on my list What I’m Loving list, are you? I’m an OG Swiftie – I was one of maybe two people jumping around singing “Picture To Burn” when she was but a teeny bopper opening for George Strait with her sparkly guitar – and Red is maybe my favorite album of hers. Maybe because it changes often. The re-recording is brilliant and that 10-minute “All Too Well” wrecked me.

All Too Well – The Short Film. Again, you’re not surprised to see the “All Too Well” short film included here. Taking off my Swiftie hat and putting on my film school hat, everything about the short was well-done. The casting, the acting, the cinematography, the writing, the Taylor Swift speciality easter eggs tucked throughout… Little things, like ensuring “her” wore Taylor’s signature red lipstick, took a great short and made it something exemplary. I would have perhaps cut an F-bomb or two during the fight scene, but otherwise, it’s the kind of short I’d kill to make for my thesis project next year.

You. I’ve been a fan of You from the jump, but season three really took it up a notch. The characters of Joe and Love are so nuanced and the acting is superb. I also enjoyed Tati Gabrielle as Marienne. She was a favorite of mine as Prudence on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and it was great to see her in such a different role. I watched the whole of season three in two days and gasped audibly several times over – a must watch. I maintain my position that Joe is really Dan Humphrey after his inevitable divorce from Serena.

Love Hard. I’m a sucker for a Christmas movie and Love Hard on Netflix fit the bill of cheesy romantic comedy. The title comes from the two lead characters’ favorite Christmas movies – Love, Actually and Die Hard – and follows Natalie (played by Nina Dobrev), the writer of a popular column about her bad dates, as she heads to Lake Placid to meet the online match she has fallen for, only to learn she has been catfished. It made me laugh and left me feeling all warm inside. Watch it with a good glass of wine.

Conner Smith. I discovered Conner Smith through Thomas Rhett’s Instagram stories. He had me at “I Hate Alabama,” but he sold me on “Tennessee.” His lyrics are clever. “I Hate Alabama” is, on one hand, a song about how he hates the Crimson Tide for beating his Vols year after year. (from one Vol to another, AMEN), but on the other, it’s also about how he hates Alabama because that’s where a girlfriend dumped him. And “Tennessee” drops the Vols and Dolly Parton and samples “Rocky Top.” What more could a Tennessee girl want? If you like country music (and/or hate Alabama…) give Conner a listen.

Tree Hut Coco Colada Shea Sugar Scrub. I put this last on this month’s What I’m Loving for a reason – you need to stop whatever you’re doing to head to your local Target or Ulta and buy a jar of Tree Hut’s Coco Colada Shea Sugar Scrub. A woman I follow shared it on her Instagram story with a ‘you must buy this for the softest skin of your life’ message and since I’ve been dealing with the driest skin of my life lately (thanks, California), I was willing to try anything. It is, in fact, a game changer.

That’s it for What I’m Loving this month. Tell me: What are you loving this month?
