Friday Picks

Friday Picks: Volume 3

Is it just me or did this week feel extra long? I know it wasn’t just me. This whole time change nonsense kicks. my. booty. I can fall back just fine – who doesn’t love an extra hour of sleep? – but springing forward wrecks me. It takes me almost a full week to get back on track. While typing this, I’m so tired I can barely hold my eyes open…

But that’s not going to stop us from getting to this week’s Friday Picks! It’s a lot of body part stuff this week…

Fresh. I don’t usually go for the horror or thriller genre of movies. I don’t even watch a lot of movies. But I do love Sebastian Stan – forever Carter Baizen, am I right? – and after seeing several great reviews of his new movie Fresh, I gave it a shot. It’s disturbing and gory, but Sebastian is so good in it that I couldn’t look away. Daisy Edgar-Jones stars opposite him and she, too, is brilliant. Their chemistry is so palpable that you find yourself rooting for them even though he’s terrible. And the kitchen dancing scene… Well, I won’t spoil it for you, but wow. Sebastian’s charisma in that scene is off the charts. It’s on Hulu – give it a watch. Just, maybe not while eating.

Skin Check. I subscribe to the idea that “preventive care is self-care,” so I dutifully make my yearly appointments as my April 8 birthday approaches. Tip: schedule those yearly appointments around your birthday so you don’t forget! I had my yearly skin check this week and it was so easy (and my doctor was easily the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen). No suspect moles and all cleared for another 1-2 years. I did have one mole he gave extra attention to, but because it’s been documented in my chart, he could tell it hasn’t changed and therefore wasn’t concerned. And it’s documented for the next check so we’ll know if it does change. Skin cancer is easily treatable when caught early and a check takes less than a half hour. Get those spot checked! And wear sunscreen!

Physical Therapy. I also (finally) went to physical therapy for some on and off pelvic pain I’ve been experiencing. I’m now obsessed with my PT. I had a lot of tests over several months for the source of pain before we determined it was functional. She narrowed down what’s causing it (hi, wonky SI joint and spasming QL muscle) and demonstrated how I hold nearly all of my stress and tension in my pelvis and hips. I’m so excited to work with her and get back to moving 100% and doing the fitness I love.

Cookie Butter Iced Coffee. I accidentally ordered a cookie butter iced coffee from Coffee Bean a couple of weeks ago and it was a great accident. It is easily my new favorite coffee drink on their menu and it’s not too terrible on the calories either. I treated myself to one after my skin check and judging by the amount of homework I have this weekend, I have a feeling I’ll be treating myself to another one (or two) over the next couple of days.

March Madness. I’m a football girl first and foremost, but I can’t help but get excited about college basketball this time of year, especially when my Tennessee Vols are hot and are SEC Tournament champs (for the first time since 1979!). I’m in third place in our office bracket pool at the moment, but I have a feeling its about to get shifted around. And even though I picked them to go pretty far in the tourney, I can’t help but be just fine that Kentucky lost in the first round. 🙃

That’s it for this week’s Friday Picks. What have you loved this week?
