73 Questions – Vogue Rapid Fire

Have you seen Vogue’s 73 Questions series? I love those videos – they ask celebrities and influential people 73 questions that they answer rapid fire style. I’m no celebrity – unless you ask my dog – but with the recent growth in traffic around here, I thought this would be a fun way to share a little more about me. I’m especially proud of my answer to No. 35.

Here we go – 73 Questions, Vogue Rapid Fire style.

  1. What’s the best thing that happened to you this month? Traveling to Memphis for one of my dearest friends’ weddings – and being reunited with my college besties.
  2. What’s your favorite board game? Scattergories – no one will play with me because I’m so good at it though…
  3. When are you most inspired? Early in the mornings or late at night.
  4. If you could teach one subject in school what would it be? Literature. Real specific? Southern Literature.
  5. What’s your favorite beverage? Coffee/red wine/bourbon
  6. What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received? “You’re authentic.”
  7. What is your favorite birthday cake? Strawberry shortcake – Grandma Myrtle’s with the homemade dream whip if we’re being technical.
  8. What is one thing you still have from your childhood? A little red rocking chair.
  9. What is your favorite movie? Steel Magnolias – it will teach you everything you need to know about life.
  10. What is something you can’t do? Drive a manual.
  11. Window or aisle seat? Window on shorter flights, aisle on international
  12. What makes you laugh no matter what? Golden Girls re-runs. They were savage.
  13. What does creativity mean to you? Leaning into the ideas that make you excited and seeing what becomes of them.
  14. What are your favorite lyrics of all time? Oh man… So many to choose from… Let’s go with the first one that popped to mind: “He made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter.” – Taylor Swift, “Mine.” That’s just a brilliant turn of words.
  15. What is your favorite holiday? Christmas. Or the first day of Tennessee Football season.
  16. What’s heavily played on your music playlist right now? Maren Morris’ Girl album.
  17. If you could raid one woman’s closet who would it be? Reese Witherspoon’s.
  18. Must have purse item? Travel-sized dry shampoo and Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment.
  19. What did you want to be when you grew up when you were 12? I believe that was my veterinarian phase.
  20. What is something you will not be doing in ten years? Working for someone else.
  21. What is an important life lesson for someone to learn? You can’t help someone that doesn’t want to help themselves.
  22. How do you start your day? Either with my journal and coffee followed by the Today show or teaching a barre class.
  23. Would you ever live anywhere besides North Carolina? Oh yes. I’d move back to Charlottesville or Nashville. Des Moines looks appealing sometimes. Somewhere out west. And don’t threaten me with the chance to move to London.
  24. What is your favorite dessert? Peanut butter anything.
  25. Is there a dessert you don’t like? Coconut cake.
  26. It’s brunch! What do you eat? Waffles topped with fruit and whip cream and mimosas.
  27. Where was the best vacation you’ve ever taken? Nicaragua. Surf camp. Hands down.
  28. Favorite Disney animal? Gus Gus from Cinderella.
  29. What is a book you are planning on reading? There’s a long list on my phone… Next up I think is Next Year In Havana.  
  30. What did you read most recently? Where The Crawdads Sing – it is a MUST read.
  31. Favorite solo artist? Let’s call a spade a spade and go with Taylor Swift here. Girl is a songwriting genius.
  32. What is something you’re tired of? The “boss babe/girl boss” culture. Can’t I just be a boss?
  33. What’s a city you wish to visit? U.S. – New Orleans; International – Budapest/Prague/Everywhere.
  34. Heels or flats? Heels.
  35. Where does one go on a perfect road trip? To the airport.
  36. What do you do on a rainy day? Read.
  37. What’s your favorite exercise? Weightlifting.
  38. What was your worst subject in school? Math. Hands down.
  39. What is your spirit animal? My yorkie, Knox – he even sticks his tongue out like I did when I was a baby.
  40. What do you usually eat for breakfast? Eggs, usually with some sort of vegetable and ground turkey/chicken type of hash.
  41. What do you usually eat for dinner? A protein (chicken, I eat chicken…) and vegetables – I swear I make it more exciting than it sounds.
  42. Cooking or Baking? Baking, but I love to cook, too.
  43. Favorite baked good? Cookies – these are my current favorites.
  44. What is something you wish you could be good at? Calligraphy.
  45. Skiing or Surfing? Surfing.
  46. First celebrity crush? John Boy from the Walton’s. Don’t judge me.
  47. Most recent celebrity crush? Kip Moore. Still.  
  48. What color was your prom dress? Junior year, pink; Senior year, royal blue
  49. How do you manage stress? By lifting weights.
  50. What do you do to relax? Read. We have a theme here.
  51. Age when you were first kissed? 16
  52. Place you were first kissed? His car.
  53. Favorite fashion trend of all time? The athleisure look. Ha!
  54. Best fashion advice you’ve ever received? Dress for your body, but wear it if you want to.
  55. Trend you would like to see disappear forever? Low rise jeans.
  56. Shoes or Bags? Shoes.
  57. How do you know if you’re in love? When your insides light up and it shows on the outside.
  58. Television show you’ve binged on recently? Riverdale season 3.
  59. Who do you turn to when you’re sad? My best friends and my dog.
  60. Name one thing you’ve learned the hard way? Again, you can’t help people that don’t want to be helped.
  61. If you could make a documentary about anything what would it be? Women in weightlifting.
  62. What is your Kryptonite? Cookies and peanut butter.
  63. What are you most enchanted by? Intelligence.
  64. What is your biggest strength? Empathy.
  65. What is your biggest weakness? Empathy. It’s a double-edged sword.
  66. What are 3 words to describe living in Chapel Hill? Collegiate, Quaint, Friendly.
  67. Cutest thing on planet earth? Puppies and babies.
  68. Most important advice you’d give your future children? Stay utterly and passionately true to your beliefs and gifts.
  69. Best first date idea? An activity – like a cooking class, mini golf, sports game… less pressure than sitting on opposite one another at dinner trying to make conversation.  
  70. Favorite type of flower? Lilacs. They will always remind me of my dad because he grows them.
  71. What do you first notice about someone when you meet them? How they make me feel – sounds weird, but I’m really good at picking up on whether someone is going to be friend or foe.
  72. What’s your guilty pleasure? Shows like Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or Riverdale on Netflix, and Guys Grocery Games or any of the baking championship shows on Food Network.
  73. Plans for the weekend? Teach barre, weightlifting programming, volunteering at the Special Olympics Summer Games, and hosting my friend Hanna for a short overnight visit – a jam-packed 48 hours.
