Whole30: Week Three Recap

Whole30 week three has wrapped!

This week has been – easy. Mostly. I got bored of my food, especially the salads I made for lunch by mid-week, but that would have happened Whole30 or not – a girl cannot exist on salads alone, right? I picked up a few “special” snacks from the grocery store (you know, those plantain chips the strict Whole30ers show up at your door with pitchforks and flaming torches over) to supplement the “I cannot eat this salad one more time” feeling (I ate the salad…) and it helped power through.

I did have a moment of temptation. I went to a small group on Thursday night and pizza was served. I’d also had a day at work and pizza sounded like the ultimate comfort food in that moment. I eyed the cheese pizza with the thought of “it has the least amount of non-compliant foods, and if I just have one piece…”

Nope.

I stopped myself.

I was on day 18 at that point, more than halfway through. Stay the course, Sarah. I stuck to the fruits and veggies offered instead, then came home to dice a potato and pop it in the air fryer. I overcame that temptation and you know what? It felt pretty good.

I also had some unusual cravings this week. I hardly ever have fast food, and when I do, it’s almost always Chick-Fil-A which, in my humble opinion, does not count as fast food (let me live!) or, on occasion, Bojangles. This past week, I had a moment where I would have considered selling my soul for an order of McDonald’s fries, desperately wanted chili from Wendy’s – I have literally never had Wendy’s chili – and Friday night, around 9pm, all I could think about was Olive Garden. How good would a big plate of pasta and breadsticks – especially breadsticks – be?

I don’t think I’ve had Olive Garden in 10+ years.

Some folks report having vivid food dreams during Whole30. Apparently I was having vivid food daydreams?

This week has also been a big “scale” week. You’re not supposed to weigh during Whole30, but I have a few theories about my body I’m working on and I wanted some data to support it, so i’ve been weighing daily and while we started “up” on the scale on Monday, I can tell you I am, officially, at my lowest weight in more than two years. That’s some serious motivation.

We’re in the final full week of Whole30, and I’m feeling great. There is a very good chance we’re going to keep this whole Whole30 going more than thirty days. Not as strict, but – 80/20? We’ll see… Stay tuned.
