Today is day 29 of Whole30 – I’ve made it four whole weeks!
I’ll share a full Whole30 recap soon, once I’ve completed the full 30 days and re-introduction, but let’s recap how week four of Whole30 went.
How I Felt
This week was similar to week three as far as how I felt. I had a lot of energy and great workouts. Wednesday’s workout was especially strong. We were bench pressing, and I found myself knocking out my previous 1-rep max for five reps at a time for five sets. Lower body is my strength in the gym – squats and deadlifts for days – so it was really great to see the upper body improvement.
Changes I’ve Seen
My skin continues to look absolutely amazing. I’ve always had good skin as far as not having major issues with acne, but I’ve had a red flush that grows brighter as the day progresses for as long as I can remember. The redness is gone, and my skin definitely has a glow. I said it last week, but it’s been so good not having stomach issues. I’m equal parts eager and nervous to see what affects me during re-introduction.
What I Ate
I made an incredible egg casserole for breakfast this week. I chopped up red and green peppers, spinach, and broccoli, then grated a sweet potato. I mixed it all together, dumped it in a casserole dish, then beat 10 eggs and poured it over the veggies. It was utterly delicious. I ate a slice of casserole and an apple with almond butter each morning.
For lunch, I went with an easy salad and an olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing, and post-workout was (and still is – I’m obsessed) monkey salad. I also ate a banana or a handful of nuts on my way to the gym, and a Larabar or a banana in the afternoons if I was teaching or dinner was going to be later than usual.
Dinner was pretty simple. I made some turkey burger patties and mashed sweet potatoes, and topped them with a fried egg and guacamole. I usually had an apple with almond butter as well. It was simple but delicious.
Friday night, I accidentally cheated. I ate one very small piece of cheese at the Junior League of Charlottesville’s Great Gatsby Soiree. I didn’t realize it was cheese until it was in my mouth. I had loaded up a plate with fruits and veggies, including what I thought were apple slices in the dim lighting. The cheese had a red “skin” on it and were cut into apple-like wedges. Honestly, it didn’t taste very good. I had to gum it to get it down. I know you’re technically supposed to start over when you have a slip up, but I won’t. It was a bite of cheese and I’m human. Grace is key.
The next day, I did push aside a desperate desire for one of the Sweethaus cupcakes served at my friend’s baby shower. Trust me when I say I really, REALLY, wanted one.
I’ll be back next week with a full Whole30 recap. Stay tuned!
If you see me on Wednesday, I’ll be the one eating peanut butter on EVERYTHING. Because friends, the first thing to reintroduce is legumes.
Give me all the peanut butter. And peanut butter protein shakes. I cannot wait for a peanut butter protein shake.
