It’s been a pretty cool week. I wrote a review on Bobby Bones’ book – which is really just a bunch of words raving about how much I loved it – and he was kind enough to not only re-tweet it, but share it on his show’s Facebook page. So now I feel like I’m famous in a small town a la Miranda Lambert.
Tomorrow, I’m competing in my first (and likely last) Strong(wo)man competition at Primal Strength Gym here in Charlottesville. There are five events, four of which are outside. The heat index is 109 for tomorrow – what could go wrong?
I’ll have full details about how Strongman works out for me on Monday.
And now, the links I’m loving this week.
Charlie Worsham’s Vulnerable New Album: If you only read one of these links, make it this one. This is a beautiful piece about vulnerability and telling the truth not just in the music industry, but in a world that doesn’t always allow for it. And then, head over to Spotify and listen to Charlie’s work – you’ll love it.
5 Questions To Ask During An Interview: I’m generally the interviewer these days and whenever I ask a candidate if they have any questions, I’m always put off if they say “no.” This article has some great questions to ask the next time you find yourself being interviewed.
Resting Between Strength Workouts: I haven’t worked out save for teaching a couple of classes since Monday and I’m losing.my.mind. I’m resting for tomorrow’s competition, and I don’t like it. I feel soft and like I’ve totally lost all my strength (all lies). This article was a timely reminder of how important rest can be for the body.
Become A Happier Person: We’ve established that I’m about living a happy life. This is a great exercise inspired by The Happiness Project for those of us working on ourselves.
Thoughts Every Runner Experiences: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I don’t like running. The only thing I dislike more than running is rowing (even though I’m “good” at it). This post on runners’ thoughts cracked me up because even though I only run a mile or two at a time, I’ve had all of them.
Best & Worst Places To Start A Small Business: We’re all entrepreneurs these days – or so it seems. If you’re planning to start a small business soon, you may want to head to Texas. And avoid Milwaukee.
7 Apps For Your Side Hustle: Keeping in line with the side hustle theme from above, this article has some great suggestions on apps that will help with your side hustle. I already use the MailChimp and Wunderlist apps, but I’m downloading Wave ASAP.
You’re Allowed To Leave: This has popped up in my newsfeed several times this week. I’ve in turn read it several times this week. It’s pretty powerful. I love the quote at the top: “If you ever find yourself in the wrong story, leave.”
Healthy Travel Hacks: Y’all know I love to travel and I’m always on the lookout for useful travel hacks. Hum Nutrition has a great piece on their blog. I especially like the hack about minding your gut. My stomach always has a moment of disagreement when I travel.
