The first week back in the office after a vacation is always tough, but this go around was especially rough. Nicaragua stole my heart and I’m missing the slow pace and inner peace I enjoyed while there. I’ve also been fighting through an electrolyte imbalance thanks to a combination of the anti-parasite meds I took (as a precaution!) and the sheer amount of salt water I swallowed. I think I’m finally on the upswing though!
I’m definitely ready for the weekend, although it is action-packed. We’re celebrating a friend’s birthday tonight, going tubing tomorrow, and I’ll visit my parents and grandma on Sunday. Lots of friends, family, and food – what more could you want from a weekend? Especially when its a holiday one?
Starting today, Fridays around here will be dedicated to ‘Links I Love.’ I’m a sucker for these posts, and decided to start curating my favorite health/wellness/mindfulness links that I read throughout the week. And, let’s be honest, a few of my favorite music and travel links, too!
I Am Going to Eat Whatever I Want on First Dates: This article by a woman reacting to a “study” that indicates the first date meals most and least likely to result in a second date is full of good stuff. I’m with this girl. If I want a cheeseburger on a date, I’m going to eat a cheeseburger on a date.
Why You Need Different Shoes For Different Workouts: I get asked about this a lot. People notice that I show up to the gym with two pairs of shoes – Converse to lift in and Nikes to run in. I need different support for each component, hence the different shoes. This is a great article on the right type of shoe for your workout.
Everything You Want To Know About Spin Class: The first time I took a spin class, I had no idea what I was doing. There were special shoes, clipping in, adjusting the bike… So confusing. Thankfully, the instructors at our local studio are great and they helped me out!
An App That’s Like Uber For Personal Trainers: The Handstand app isn’t available in Charlottesville (yet), but I’m already obsessed with it. I can’t wait for them to expand here. I’ll be signing up as a trainer ASAP. If you try it out in your city, let me know how it goes!
The Most Important Factor For Human Happiness: Want to know the single most important factor to be happy? Read this article. I agree with it 100% – material possessions are nice, but it’s our people that add true value to our lives.
10 Most Important Lessons to Teach Your Daughter: I don’t have children yet, but I loved this article on things one woman wants to teach her daughter. I especially loved the lesson on struggling – and the reminder to let them struggle.
8 Apps to Help You Decorate Your Living Space: A comfortable living space is just as important to our mental health as, say, vacation days and meditation, but I’m terrible at home decor, despite my best efforts. I’ve been attempting to re-vamp my apartment, but failing miserably. I’ll be downloading a couple of these to help me out.
Kelsea Ballerini’s “Legends” Music Video: Kelsea Ballerini has become one of my favorite female country artists. Her “Legends” video came out yesterday, and it’s beautiful. Spoiler alert: Have tissues handy.
10 Life Lessons To Exceed In Your 30s: I tend to take these articles with a grain of salt, but this one has some pretty good advice. I especially like lesson number five – focus on doing a few things well, rather than doing everything at once. Something I should try sometime.
