I experienced jet lag for the first time.
To date, I’ve been pretty fortunate to be able to transition from one timezone to another without issue. Coming back from Iceland though? Iceland won.
We got back Sunday evening, and I was good to go on Monday, save for the part where I woke up in Charlottesville instead of Iceland. Not quite the same…
Tuesday wrecked me.
When I’m especially tired, I cry. I made it through the work day, barely, taught a barre class, then sat down on my couch when I got home and cried from exhaustion. I went to bed early, and woke up in a much better mood on Wednesday. I still fell asleep – sitting up – at 9:30 on the couch. I woke up four hours later, washed the dishes, wrote a couple of music articles – because that’s what you do at 1:30 in the morning – and went to bed.
Jet lag is no joke.
Should have stayed in Iceland.
I’m pretty excited about all the content I have in the works. Hand to plow, so to speak. But, for now, because it’s Friday and I’m on my… 4th? cup of coffee, let’s get into the Health & Fitness Links I Love this week!
5 Compound Exercises You Should Add To Your Workout – This article from ACE emphasizes keeping it simple, and incorporating compound movements – movements that involve multiple body parts at once – into workout routines. I execute all five of these movements on a weekly basis and will almost always prescribe them, or some variation of them, for clients.
Four Words To Avoid In Group Fitness – This is another piece by ACE that I loved this week. As a group fitness instructor, I’ve been guilty of using some of the words presented in this piece, particularly things like “easy” and “hard” to describe progressions. I’ve been inspired to change up some of my terminology to be more inclusive.
The Questions Every Woman Should Ask About Friendship – Find your tribe and love them hard. But only if that tribe is good for you. This piece from Well + Good will get you to consider who you are surrounding yourself with.
Is It Actually Better to Show In The Morning Or At Night? – I’m a morning shower person about 80% of the time. Mostly because of my schedule and desire to have my hair look half decent. Sometimes you need that shower at night though. SELF broke down the pros and cons of morning showers vs. evening showers.
Clean Up Your Energy By Cutting your Emotional Cords – We established that I’m a fan of Gabby Bernstein. I love this piece of hers about cutting your emotional cords. To head down that hippy-dippy path with you, I’ve done this before and swear by it.
How To Know when It’s Safe To Go Back To Work After The Flu – The Flu has hit my office and my gym and it’s not showing a lot of mercy. If you’re feeling ill, STAY HOME. Like this SELF article says, even if you are starting to feel better, you may still be contagious. Keep those germs to yourself!
That’s all I’ve got for you on the links front this week. I didn’t read as much as I usually do, thanks to the time spent trying to sleep off the jet lag. Here’s to sleeping some this weekend.
My powerlifting meet is a week from tomorrow, so I’ll update about training and preparation on Monday! I’m headed to the gym to max my deadlift shortly. 300lbs? Maybe? We’ll see…
What did you read this week? Showers in the morning? Or the evening?
